HomeBudget: Family Budget App Effective 25 October 2026 · Updated 28 October 2026
No data collectedNothing leaves your phone
No adsNo trackers or analytics
No sign-inNo account needed
Works offlineNo server, no cloud

In short: HomeBudget keeps everything you enter on your own phone. NHM Apps does not have your data. We do not collect it, we do not sell it and we do not show ads. The app has no account and no sign-in, and it works fully offline.

1.Information we collect

None. NHM Apps does not collect, receive, store or have access to anything you enter in HomeBudget, such as your income, expenses, bills, family member names, bank names, notes or settings.

The app does not use analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services. It does not ask for permission to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos or files, and it never reads your location. The only optional permissions it asks for are to show notifications, on Android 12 and newer "Alarms & reminders" so they arrive on time (see section 1a), and "Nearby devices" (Bluetooth) for the optional Share nearby feature (see section 1b). The app asks for your name on first use; it is stored only on your phone. The app never sends what you enter over the internet. Android lists a network permission for the app only because it includes Google's Play Billing library, which talks to Google Play to handle the optional Pro purchase (see section 4).

1a.Reminder notifications (bills and backups)

If you switch on Phone notifications in Settings, HomeBudget shows reminders for your monthly commitments and planned expenses. If you switch on the Backup reminder, it also shows a notification at the day and time you choose (monthly or weekly) to remind you to back up; tapping it opens the backup screen in the app. Android 13 and newer asks for your permission first, and you can turn the feature off in the app or in Android settings at any time. The reminders are worked out and scheduled on your phone itself, using Android's own alarm service, and are shown by your phone. Nothing about them is sent to NHM Apps, Google or anyone else. A short list of the coming reminders (names, dates and the text shown, and your backup reminder day and time) is kept in the app's private storage so they can be set again after the phone restarts; it is removed when you turn notifications off or clear the app's data. On a locked screen, Android may show only the words "Bill reminder", depending on your phone's settings.

1b.Share nearby (Bluetooth)

Share nearby lets a family member send their expenses to the Budget Manager's phone without a chat app. It is optional and only starts when you open the radar screen. Android asks for the Nearby devices permission (Bluetooth scan, connect and visibility) and for the phone to be visible to other phones for about 2 minutes. On Android 6 to 11, Android itself requires the Location permission before any app may scan for Bluetooth devices; HomeBudget uses it only for that scan, does not read or store your location, and the app is built so that on Android 12 and newer the scan is declared as never used to find your location.

The data goes directly from one phone to the other over Bluetooth, using Android's encrypted pairing. It does not pass through the internet, NHM Apps or any server. The Budget Manager must tap Import before anything is added, and can decline. The names of nearby Bluetooth devices that Android reports during a scan are shown on the radar and are not stored or sent anywhere. You can deny the permission and still share by message, as in section 3.

2.Where your data is stored

Everything you enter is saved only on your device, inside the app's private storage. It is not uploaded anywhere. The app switches off Android's automatic cloud and device-transfer backup for its data, so it is not copied to Google Drive or to a new phone by the system.

If you turn on the optional App lock (a Pro feature), your data on the phone is encrypted with a key made from your passcode. The passcode is never stored. If you forget it, nobody, including us, can recover the data.

How the encryption works
  • Method: your data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, a widely used standard that also detects any tampering.
  • The key is never stored. It is created from your passcode each time you unlock (PBKDF2 with SHA-256, 600,000 rounds and a random salt), kept only in the phone's memory while the app is unlocked, and discarded when the app locks or closes.
  • What is saved on the phone: only the encrypted data and the small non-secret values needed to open it again (salt, round count and a random initialisation value), in the app's private storage. Your passcode is never written anywhere.
  • Forgotten passcode: because no key or passcode is kept, nobody can recover the data. Keep a backup.
  • Extra protection: passcodes must be at least 6 characters, very simple ones are refused, repeated wrong attempts make the app wait before the next try, and Android's cloud backup of the app is switched off.
  • Please note: the lock is only as strong as your passcode, so choose one that is hard to guess. Without App lock, your data is not encrypted, although it stays in the app's private storage that other apps cannot read.

3.Data you choose to share

Some features let you create a file or text and send it yourself:

When you use one of these, Android's share sheet opens and you decide which app receives the data (for example WhatsApp, Gmail or Google Drive). From then on, that data is handled by the app you chose, under its own privacy policy. We never see it. Please share backups and family data only with people you trust.

Restoring a backup uses Android's own file picker: you choose the backup file, and HomeBudget receives only that file. The app does not get access to your other files or folders and needs no storage permission.

4.Purchases (HomeBudget Pro)

The app is free. An optional one-time in-app purchase called HomeBudget Pro unlocks extra features. Purchases are made and processed entirely by Google Play. We do not see or store your card, UPI or other payment details.

The app only asks Google Play whether your Google account owns Pro, so it can unlock the features, and it keeps a small marker on your device so Pro keeps working offline. Google's handling of your payment and account data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

5.Children

HomeBudget is a general household-budget app for adults and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

6.Your choices and deleting your data

7.Security

The app only ever displays its own bundled pages and cannot load websites. Optional protection includes an app lock with AES-256 encryption, a setting that hides the app in recent apps and blocks screenshots, and password-protected backups. No method of storage is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone locked and your backups safe.

8.Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date at the top. If a future version of the app collects any information, we will describe it here and in the Google Play Data safety section before it does.
